There will likely be a time when everyone has a tooth extracted. It could be a damaged tooth, one prone to infection, or a wisdom tooth. At Lumora, we try to make tooth extractions as comfortable as possible. You won’t feel pain because we use a local anesthetic. You will only feel pressure. We provide aftercare instructions and a follow-up visit to make sure you are healing properly.

A simple extraction can be done when a tooth is growing properly and is straight. This is common for teeth like wisdom teeth. A dentist can extract the tooth as one piece with little invasive procedures. The gum is sutured.

Oral surgery is needed for teeth requiring a complicated extraction. These could be severely damaged or decayed teeth, or impacted wisdom teeth. A tooth growing sideways, under other teeth or into the jaw will require oral surgery to remove.
You will be given an examination and X-ray to see how the surrounding bone is before the procedure.
We will give you local anesthesia using a shot to numb the area where work is going to be done.
The dentist will loosen the tooth and extract it. They may have to section the tooth and pull each section out if it is heavily decayed or damaged.
One of the biggest fears is the time it takes for a tooth extraction. This procedure doesn’t take long. Most simple tooth extractions can be done in 30 minutes to an hour. Oral surgery tooth extractions will take longer. Our dentists also ask if you want to include a bone graft with your extraction. A bone graft makes a dental implant later more successful and helps keep your facial structure intact.
